REINFORCE DIKES

Water safety is very important, especially in these times of climate change, seawater rise and subsidence. The JLD Dike Stabilizer, developed by JLD-Contracting BV, is a sustainable, flexible cost-saving and innovative solution, developed and funded within the POV macrostability in the framework of the High Water Protection Program (HWBP) to strengthen dikes in the core (Macrostability). The aim of the HWBP is to strengthen dikes better, faster and cheaper.

The JLD Dike Stabilizer is applied in the inward slope of the dike. The application of the JLD Dike Stabilizer is done with relatively light equipment. The JLD Dike Stabilizer, an elongated plastic element, is placed where the extra force required is needed in the dike. Installation of the JLD Dike Stabilizer has less impact on the surrounding area than pile driving or vibrating sheet piling or retaining berms and will therefore cause less nuisance to the surrounding area.

The JLD Levee Stabilizer not only provides reinforcement, but also allows the levee to "communicate." The stabilizers are equipped
with sensors and with this the dike becomes a "smart dike." With these sensors it is possible to measure the pressure in the system, pore pressure, vibration and temperature in the dike and thus keep track of the expected positive interaction between the JLD Dike Stabilizer and the dike. In this way, targeted maintenance can be carried out and even in the future the design of flood defenses could be used more sharply by value.

The innovative dike reinforcement is a solution that helps to provide a safer living environment for people, to better protect them from a dike breach and also to give earlier warning of possible dike weakening, keeping the Netherlands dry feet.
