JLD supplies fiberglass reinforced plastic sheet piles (FRP) for project "Kollumer trekfeart" at Kollum.
The old sheet piles there are being replaced with 6-meter-long glass fiber reinforced plastic sheet piles, placed by Kuipers Waterbouw Dokkum BV.

Rijkswaterstaat awards combination "Hof van Marken" contract

Award Dike Reinforcement Marken 🎉

We are proud to report dat Rijkswaterstaat has awarded the contract for the dyke reinforcement project Marken to the Hof van Marken consortium, a joint venture between de Vries & van de Wiel and JLD Contracting.

The west and south quays of the surrounding dike must be reinforced over a length of more than 5 kilometers to meet the current safety standard and protect Marken the next 50 years against high water. Therefore, a new (higher) dike will be constructed outside the dike, against the existing dike. Then we will partially remove the existing dike. Outside the dike, in the water, a new dike will be constructed. In short: a beautiful, orderly hydraulic engineering project in a cultural-historical environment.

The ring dike defines the landscape of the island of Marken. Residents and tourists also recreate on and around the dike: the 'round Marken' is a concept in itself! Hof van Marken takes this into account in its plans. Together we stand for a water safe and robust design with an eye for the environment.

The coming period is dedicated to further developing the tender design into a final implementation design. In October 2021, Hof van Marken will start the design work and a trial section will be constructed in 2022. Realization is expected to start in 2023. Depending on the construction method, the new dike will be ready between 2025 and 2027.
