On January 19, 2015, the first meeting of the POV Macrostability took place with an excursion to the test site of the JLD Dike Stabilizer. Frans van den Berg wrote a column about this for the first newsletter of the POV Macrostability.

"On January 19, the kick-off meeting was held in Volendam, with workshops and a field trip to the JLD Dike Stabilizer. I experienced this first meeting of the POVM as very successful. The turnout was enormous; a lot of input came out of it to incorporate into the Plan of Approach. Exactly the purpose of the meeting! By now we are a few months down the road and well advanced. The organization has been set up, the project group and cluster members are at work and there is a draft Plan of Action. And reference projects have been included. These are the started projects where macro stability is an important failure mechanism. With the POVM we want to helpthe reference projects to solve the stability problem in a smart way. We are therefore working within this POVM towards concrete results that are also directly applicable. Much remains to be done until 2017, but the enthusiasm for tackling this exploration together - market parties, governments, knowledge institutes and reference projects - is there. That is great to see and gives confidence in the outcome: useful and applicable results."

The JLD Dike Stabilizer is a project Antea Group is currently working on with partners JLD Contracting BV, Wiertsema & Partners and Waterschap Rivierenland.

In the afternoon, interesting topics around the HWBP/POV Macrostability were discussed during various plenary sessions and workshops. There was also an excursion to the test site of the JLD dike stabilizer at the end of the afternoon.

One hundred sixty technicians to test dike Purmerend (from NHD)

About a hundred and sixty technicians in the field of hydraulic engineering and dike reinforcement will come to Purmerend on Monday to see the dike stabilizer from JLD Contracting of Edam.

Test dike reinforcement : measurement results hopeful

The new technique for dike reinforcement is currently being tested on a test field at the Baanstee Noord industrial estate in Purmerend. ''The measurement results so far are so promising that our client and our partners have every confidence in our system,'' says JLD director Jos Karsten about his invention. His client, Waterschap Rivierenland confirms this through Frans van den Berg. The partners are Deltares, Antea Group and Wiertsema & Partners.

Karsten is enormously proud that his company was eligible for a government innovation grant so that the effectiveness of his invention can be studied. The advantage of his system is that the dike retains its characteristic appearance and it is cheaper than current dike strengthening methods.
